2015 NRL Grand Final – Johnathon Thurston Signed & Framed Limited Edition Golden Glory
He could become the greatest player in the history of rugby league and it could have been the greatest game the code had ever seen. North Queensland co-captain Johnathan Thurston was the last minute magician who delivered the Cowboys their first ever NRL premiership in a contest decided not in minutes but in moments. A golden-point decider after a last-minute miracle try came down to the laser-like boot of the maestro from Townsville.
In the 82nd minute, in a decider that defied belief, 82,758 spellbound fans watched Thurston create history with his extra-time field goal to snatch an epic 17-16 victory in the code’s first all-Queensland decider. Thurston’s field goal smashed North Queensland’s 20-year title drought in a truly magical 2015 NRL Grand Final which met, exceeded and defied all normal expectations.
An opening half try-fest turned in to a second-half war which became a final minute spectacle no-one who witnessed it could ever forget. The Cowboys looked gone, trailing 16-12 before Thurston helped set up winger Kyle Feldt, who touched down for a try after the full-time siren to level the scores. Given his chance after the siren, Cowboys fans arm-in-arm at the game and around the country watched as Thurston’s sideline conversion hit the right upright. But the miss served only as a precursor to the kick that could define a legacy.
Thurston, and the Cowboys, would not be denied. It only took four more movements for the ball to find Thurston, and for the Clive Churchill Medallist to send it sailing over the black dot. Victory belonged to North Queensland. The Cowboys were NRL Premiers for the first time.
In conjunction with the National Rugby League and North Queensland Cowboys, we are pleased to release ‘Golden Glory – Johnathan Thurston Signed Premiers Lithograph’ capping off an extraordinary week for the man already dubbed ‘the Ninth Immortal’.
