Behind Enemy Lines is the ultimate tribute to eight weeks of magical cricket on foreign soil.
The campaign was headed by Australia’s inaugural qualification in the World Test Championship Final at The Oval against India and culminated in an Ashes Series for the ages.
Day one of the WTC saw statement centuries from Steve Smith and Travis Head that laid the foundation for Australia’s maiden victory. After being crowned the World Champions of Test Cricket, Australia then embarked on a crusade to defend its position of holder of The Ashes.
The series was marked multiple fine batting displays from stoic opener Usman Khawaja, brilliance from Pat Cummins with the ball and supported by fellow speedster and eventual Australian Player of the Series Mitchell Starc. It was punctuated with moments that will be remembered and debated for years to come; Nathan Lyon’s defiance at the crease whilst carrying a tour ending calf injury, Pat Cummins’ match winning runs, Alex Carey’s quick thinking stumping of Bairstow followed by the world’s reaction including the loutish behaviour of those in the Long Room. An awe-inspiring century from holiday maker Mitch Marsh, Steve Smith’s ton and then there were rain delays and replacement balls that wreaked havoc on anticipated results. The outcome, Australia retained The Ashes.
Put simply, this was a tour unlike any other in the almost 150-year history of the game.
