Cricket – History in the Making – Historical Day/Night Test Match – Signed & Framed Limited Edition Panoramic
In the 139 years of Test Cricket played thus far, the evolutions have been frequent, and frequently significant. The evolution from under-arm bowling to the over-arm bowling we recognise today spawned 19th century greats like Fred ‘The Demon’ Spofforth. We marvel at the careers of giants like Bradman, Grace, Hobbs and Headley, and can only imagine how their performances may have been even more stunning if the advent of covered pitches was an initial aspect of the great game, rather than another evolution.
Eight-ball overs were slashed to four, and gradually grew to five, then to the six ball overs we know today. There were rest days, there were six-day Tests, and even Timeless Tests, the outcome of which have produced fourth-innings records that may never be surpassed. Third umpires sprung into being, their importance now accompanied by one of the great sporting technological advancements of the modern era – the Decision Review System. Kerry Packer took the cricketing world’s greats and gave us a sporting heist in the form of World Series Cricket. Fast forward 31 years as 55,000 Indian fans went into a three-hour frenzy at the inaugural IPL Twenty20 match, and the signs were clear – the evolution would be televised.
For the cricketer, and for the cricket historian, evolution greets us wherever we look. However, in the hours to come, cricket enters a new era which seems less like evolution, and more like revolution.
Both Steve Smith or Brendon McCullum, for the first time ever, led their white-clad soldiers out onto the Adelaide Oval under lights, with the pink ball in the hands of their strike force. The public has responded brilliantly, with a packed house expected in attendance and millions of Australians tuning in during prime-time as the Trans-Tasman rivalry continues under lights. Test cricket evolves again, the wheel turns once more, and Friday night was an evening for cricket fans to savour… a night to remember.
In conjunction with Cricket Australia, we are proud to present ‘HISTORY IN THE MAKING’, as the Adelaide Oval welcomes one of the most memorable evolutions in Test history. The panoramic perfectly captures the spirit and excitement of the world-first Day/Night Test. It is a true instersection of nature, innovation and human endeavour.
Personally signed by competing captains Steve Smith and Brendon McCullum, ‘HISTORY IN THE MAKING’ will commemorate the next frontier in international cricket, and those who have the privilege of delivering it for the first time.
