Horse Racing – Melbourne Cup “The Greatest Race Never Run”
Leading Sports & Equine artist Brian Clinton was commissioned to paint the 24 greatest winners of the Melbourne Cup.The names do not get any bigger, Makybe Diva, Archer, Phar Lap, Saintly & Might and Power just to name a few. The result of the race as judged by the VRC’s panel of 22 experts is under lock and key and has already created fierce debate. The eventual winner will be released the same day as this piece is released on Melbourne Cup Day 2010.
The 24 selected horses were handicapped VRC’s Greg Carpenter and then the VRC’s Cheif Steward Terry Bailey completed an official barrier draw. Once this was all known the VRC’s panel of experts used this information to select the “Greatest Race Never Run” finishing order. Rising Fast and Poseidon are moving into contention, Carbine’s right on their heels, Makybe Diva is gaining a run through the field, Vintage Crop’s winding up with Saintly, Peter Pan and Galilee within striking distance. Isn’t this a racecaller’s nightmare? Where do you look with so many champions in the race. This is the “Greatest Cup Never Run” – the ultimate field of the best 24 Melbourne Cup winners since the race was first held in 1861. If ever there was a topic to start arguments and debates with racing fans, this is it.
What a talking point this piece will be on your wall, ensure to get in and secure your investment of this very special tribute!
